amuco Rattan Bamboo Khantoke Herringbone - Handcrafted pieces found in Thailand that blend seamlessly into everyday life

The "amuco" series of handmade baskets, discovered in Thailand, is recommended for those who would like to quietly incorporate everyday items that connect them to somewhere in the world into their lives.

Not only can it be used easily for storage or when going out, but incorporating one into your daily life will bring a touch of exoticism and make you feel as if the world has suddenly expanded. Such small changes will bring a comfortable space into your daily life.

Thailand, where we purchased our products, is located in Southeast Asia and is a country with a rich natural environment and a long history. It is rich in tropical natural materials, and rattan and bamboo have long been used in a wide range of household items, furniture, bags, and other handicrafts. Their lightweight and durable bags are popular for shopping and outings.

How to use it in a way that feels traditional while also fitting into modern spaces

The "Rattan Bamboo Khantoke Herringbone" is a warm, one-of-a-kind piece, carefully woven by local artisans. It's a small table made from a combination of light and durable rattan and bamboo, showcasing the natural texture of the materials. Its shape, embodied by handiwork rooted in everyday life, gently accompanies your daily life.

Khantoke is a round, legged tray that has been used since ancient times in the Lanna cultural sphere, including northern Thailand and Laos. It is similar to a Japanese "chabudai" or "ozen" and is used both as a low table for the whole family to sit around and as an individual tray, making it a dining utensil that is closely integrated into everyday life.

Available in two sizes for a variety of uses

The small size has a plate-holding area of approximately 24cm, so it can be used to hold plates or other dishes, just like those actually used in Thailand, or as a compote dish for small sweets or fruit.

The L size is slightly larger than the S size, with a plate area of approximately 26.5 cm. It is recommended as a flower stand for candles, your favorite accessories, or even a vase of flowers.

Although it has a traditional appearance, it has a texture that blends naturally into Japanese life, making it a useful piece to use in your daily life without any worries.

*The S and L classifications are based on approximate size, and there may be individual differences even within the same size.

A high-quality appearance created by the beauty of curves and weaving

The body is carefully woven from rattan, giving it a sturdy construction while exuding a natural and gentle atmosphere. The top surface, where the plates are placed, features a herringbone pattern, made by weaving bamboo diagonally from left to right. This rustic yet expressive piece creates rich shadows, adding warmth to any space. It is resistant to cracking and warping, and is highly functional.

The edges are intricately finished with thin rattan tightly wrapped around them, giving them a soft feel that comes with the hands and high durability.

The underside of the table has hidden cross reinforcements that prevent the tabletop from bending while still maintaining its light weight.

The base is playfully decorated with loops of gently curved rattan, creating a light and rhythmic appearance. The joints are secured with thin rattan, and intricate knots beautifully support the structure and decoration. This piece has a solid structure, a light impression, and the craftsmanship of the artisans is evident in every detail.

Rattan and bamboo baskets carefully woven by artisans, rooted in everyday life

We also have a large selection of baskets purchased in Thailand.
For those who want to enjoy a similar display that makes use of height, we also recommend the Khantoke Sunflower and Flower Bowl.
The Kantoke Sunflower has a lighter, more natural color and softer look than the Herringbone, but its neat weave pattern is beautiful and it blends in with the space while adding a touch of elegance.

By deliberately increasing the height, depth and rhythm are created in the layout, tightening up the space.
It adds a little special nuance to everyday scenes.

We hope you find one that you like.
